What is considered vintage or retro clothing?
Generally speaking, clothing which was produced before the 1920s is referred to as antique clothing and clothing from the 1920s to 20 years before the present day is considered vintage. Retro, short for retrospective, or “vintage style,” usually refers to clothing that imitates the style of a previous era.
Wikipedia describes Retro style as “a style that is consciously derivative or imitative of trends, modes, fashions, or attitudes of the recent past. It generally implies a vintage of at least fifteen or twenty years. For example, clothing from the 1980s or 1990s could be retro.
A vintage item can be retro but a retro item need not be vintage. Beware of the tons of new clothing out there that look retro; but be assured all of my Retro clothing are Vintage.
